Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix. The British racer, who took the championship lead from Piastri by just one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s. Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before sprint qualifying due at 6:30 PM GMT. The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the championship fight, lying with a 36-point deficit Norris, was classified in 17th position as his team ran a different programme. Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, if briefly, when he lost control at the fourth corner early in the session. The Japanese spun out over the exit kerbs before spinning across the gravel trap, and was fortunate to get away with just a slight brush of the fence. Ferrari's the seven-time champion also spun, at the final moments of the session, spinning around through the quick descending Mergulho turn leading to the final corner on to the pit straight. Hamilton finished practice in P19, one place behind teammate Charles Leclerc. The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, over half a second slower than Piastri's best. Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
