Exactly 30 years since the first Toy Story film was released, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

The preview shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer avoids is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the group.
