The Reason the DNC is Hiding their Post-Mortem Report on the 2024 Race: A Deep Dive.

This move by the DNC to withhold the release regarding its own post-election analysis concerning the last presidential race is remarkable but not surprising. Resistant to hard truths, the party's leadership apparatus operates closer to a PR firm than an electoral entity focused on cultivating grassroots capacities to secure victories.

A Climate That Avoids Dissent

Reluctant to challenge the prevailing attitude demanding unity, the committee has continued under the Biden-Harris shadow throughout 2025. Releasing the findings could have demonstrated whether the leadership actually want to promote open debate regarding the missteps that paved the way for Donald Trump to return to the White House. Yet, the DNC is proceeding as if there's nothing to understand from the stunning loss from the last cycle.

The top priority: does this help us win? Should the answer be negative, it is an unnecessary diversion from the core mission," a justification reportedly given for withholding the analysis.

Major Failures an Autopsy Would Have Addressed

An autopsy report with any value would confront certain uncomfortable matters. Among them are:

  • Voter Alienation: Failing to retain of a significant portion of the electorate who supported the party's candidate during the previous election became a critical factor in the close 2024 election.
  • A Decision to Seek Re-election: The unwavering choice of the incumbent to stay in the race, coupled with a very late withdrawal, is seen by some as robbing Democratic voters of a genuine choice.
  • Abandoning the Working-Class Base: Amid economic anxiety, the electoral effort reportedly bowing to corporate donors' interests without successfully attempting to address the effects of profit-seeking.
  • The Foreign Policy Impact: The failure to reconsider an approach on the situation in Gaza is cited as driving away significant blocs, especially with young people, Arab-Americans, and Muslim Americans.
  • Losing Young Voter Support: Research shows a major drop-off in votes for the candidate among voters aged 18-29.

A Pattern of Evasion

Choosing secrecy is consistent with a pattern of evading uncomfortable facts. It echoes a situation in which the vast majority of Democratic officeholder in Washington acquiesced to a sitting president's decision for running for re-election until a poor campaign event compelled a change.

At the same time, large majorities within the party's base were continually telling researchers of their opposition to that candidate to run again.

Campaign Spending Concerns

A substantive analysis could investigate matters regarding campaign spending, such as how much money were directed to high-priced advisors and media firms during a campaign that burned through an enormous sum over a few months.

The Larger Issue

Ultimately, the suppression of the official autopsy highlights an allegiance to the established hierarchy responsible for a losing national race. The message for the party's base – which includes countless small donors – appears to be that they cannot have a right to see the lessons the leadership claim to have learned from a report compiled from extensive interviews.

A party unable to publicly examine its own failings is unlikely to break free from the cycle that ended up being so helpful to the rival party.
